RWE owns a fleet of very efficient gas power stations and one coal station in the UK. All of these power stations will be needed in the short/medium term to mange the security of the electricity system into a renewable future – but it’s really important that we operate these in the most environmentally friendly way possible. At our coal station we have special equipment which reduce harmful gases and we are working on new projects to make it even cleaner. Our gas power stations run with very strict environmental limits – and we are always trying to improve their performance.
At the same time, RWE invests in research to understand new technologies – for example, we were one of the first companies in the UK to run a grid scale battery project and we also tested carbon capture at our coal power station.
Also, RWE has a company called Innogy which has windfarms and biomass plants in the UK.
We will continue to look at new ways to generate clean power and manage electricity in the best way – both to make it clean, but also affordable and secure.
