I have seen our big experiment JET go wrong. My favourite example is when the “reciprocating probe” failed. That probe is like a needle that pokes into the really hot gas in JET for a split second to take readings. The problem was, it just fell off its mount! We had to shut down the experiment and send someone in to pick it up off the bottom of the machine. But it got back up and a running in no time.
