• Question: What are the most common problems that you come across when fixing power stations?

      There are two types of maintenance – planned and unplanned.

      Most of the work I do is planned maintenance which means we test and replace parts before they fail. If we let a part fail, the cost to fix it afterwards is much higher.

      I’m an electrical engineer so some of the things we test are generators, motors transformers and big switches. Each has common issues.

      There are also big differences between old a new power stations – the older power stations usually have more unplanned maintenance.
